Ingredient List: Tomatoes, Red Onion, Green Onions, Garlic, Cilantro, Jalapeno, Limes, Cumin, Chili Powder, Salt

This is about as simple a recipe as you can imagine. All ingredients go into a blender in the proportion you like.

Not crazy about heat? Kick the chili powder and use 1/2 of a deseeded jalapeno. Want to pump it up? Throw the whole pepper in there and up the chili powder. Easy.

Remember to adjust your ingredients based on how many tomatoes (or cans of tomatoes) you have. It’s not a bad idea to hold back some of the tomatoes just in case you find that you’ve added too much red onion. It’s hard to rebalance with them.

If you have in season tomatoes, use those, if not, canned works great. The kind doesn’t matter, as the blender will take care of it.

Start with 1/8 of a red onion and increase from there. Other than the jalapeno, this is the most easily abused ingredient here. If you find that you love it, you can always start with 1/2 of the onion next time.

Open cans, take off peels, juice limes, then dump initial portions of the ingredients into a blender. Blitz.

Adjust the flavor with small additions of various ingredients. A little more garlic? A little more lime? Salt? Taste as you go.

Serve with chopped veggies for dipping, as a dressing for taco salads, or use to spice up almost any meal.
